Welcome to Essential Press Materials of Catching the Editor’s Eye.

This module is the sixth segment of Catching the Editor’s Eye, a full course on media relations. I originally created this course as a way to train PR professionals on how to connect with editors. During the pandemic lockdown, however, I received so many emails from independent designers that were poorly worded and had numerous issues with visual materials that I decided to evolve the course and expand it to teaching young designers and even boutique owners how to reach out to the press, what kinds of media relationships to look for and how to build them.

My aim with recording the Essential Press Materials module of the course is to give people access to the most fundamental materials you should prepare and have ready at all times when reaching out to any member of the media. Waiting to write these materials until you actually need them means wasting precious time once you have an editor’s or journalist’s attention, as well as omitting important information about yourself and your brand. You also may end up emailing people less than professional-level documents - and that’s not a good look for any business.

Take your time going through the course and working through writing your own materials. Please download the file below, which will give you access to the examples in the course, as well as a check list for yourself. I look forward to meeting you in person during our post-course session and finding out more about your business and brand. Thank you so much for taking this course.
