Mood Board: Modern Mods

There seems to be an over-arching theme of nostalgia hitting every cultural touchstone from fashion to beauty to film. Which is perhaps one reason why mod emerged as a major trend from the Spring 2025 shows. The other reason is that mod is about a sophisticated simplicity with serious style impact - more than, say, quiet luxury, which has become boring and predictable. But unlike the irreverent and relaxed attitude of Mary Quant’s pioneering styles from the 1960s, this season’s mods have a polished edge, more in line with the original Mod subculture of 1950’s Britain that referenced Italian sportswear, sharp tailoring and clean lines. Think more of the iconic stylings of Italian actress Monica Vitti than Twiggy.
